About the Book

The Mayfly Guide uses an easy-to-follow system for identification of the most important species of mayflies at all stages of development from nymph, dun, to spinner. Each step in the process is clearly explained and illustrated to lead anglers from a specimen gathered at streamside to accounts organized by family, genus, and species. The guide includes complete identification text, measurements, distribution, habitat, time of occurrence, and more. With up-to-date taxonomy, detailed diagrams, descriptive tables, and color photographs, this book will help anglers resolve the difficulties of accurately matching the hatch and to determine the best imitation for feeding trout.

Praise for The Mayfly Guide

“Al Caucci’s The Mayfly Guide, is as clear and concise as can be. The keys are simple to use, the identification characteristics are beautifully done, and the photographs of all the major species and many of the minor ones are very clear. The guide covers mayflies throughout North America, so it should be especially valuable for the traveling angler. Pocket-sized and printed on waterproof paper, it’s like having your own private entomologist in your pocket. The Mayfly Guide is a real winner and I know I’ll use mine in the coming season.”

—Tom Rosenbauer, host of the Orvis Fly-Fishing Guide Podcast

“At last, a pocket guide to aquatic insects comparable in quality and practicality to the Peterson Field Guides…bugs made decipherable!”

—John Randolph, Fly Fisherman Magazine

“Apart from a wise old brown trout, no one knows more about mayflies than Al Caucci.”

—Peter Kaminsky, author of The Moon Pulled Up an Acre of Bass

“A wonderfully functional reference for anglers…. Certainly among the best streamside guides I’ve ever seen.”

—Ted Leeson, author of Inventing Montana

“Authoritative, practical, and indispensable for the on-stream identification of mayflies.”

—Nick Lyons, author of Spring Creek
